This sketch by Milt Kahl is another testament to the the unique friendship he had with Marc Davis.
Judging from the drawing style (and the lack of hair on both men's heads), I would think the visit occurred during the late 60ies.
It's so funny to see that Milt was able to mock his own speaking pattern, meaning he often wouldn't finish a sentence, his brain was already on the next thought.
What a great drawing!
Just a few years earlier Marc and Milt posed in front of a Bill Peet storyboard for the "Boy meets Girl" sequence in Sleeping Beauty. In the upper right corner you can see Bill's sketch for the "No Carrots" scene. On a recent post I showed Milt's animated interpretation of that situation.
It must have been the most intimidating job ever to assist these guys' animation.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing drawing on that card. Can you imagine how many cards Milt might have done and send to other people? There must be amazing stuff out there that we never seen.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this, Andreas.
somehow it looks to me that he did the card a bit later during 101 dalmatians, the whole linear style is more similar to that film. and milt himself in the caricature looks like a bald roger. beautiful drawing!
ReplyDeletewell if it were the late 60's it would have been after 101 dalmatians
DeleteI agree, looks like the style in 101 Dalmatians.
ReplyDeletedo you think he had to make a rough for this? or just drew it perfectly right out of the gate?
ReplyDeleteNo, Milt is human, too (at least superhuman).
DeleteHe would have done a sketch before the final clean inking.
My first impresion was that I was seeing a Ronald Searle drawing.
ReplyDeleteTerrific drawing.
Thanks.
Hahaha, that was great! I, too, saw Roger at first glance. :D
ReplyDeleteA true sense of humor is when you can make fun of yourself and the quirks that make you truly unique! I also love Milt mocking himself in the text with his incoherent, profanity filled ramblings.
ReplyDeleteThe drawing is also priceless. :)
Mastery...
ReplyDeleteAwesome-ness.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, We see another Great example of a drawing that has all of the right things happening. Pose, Mood, Expression, Contrast, Weight, Perspective,Overlapping shapes, and nice attention to tangents....Great!(love the shoes!).
ReplyDeleteYou know we had the "Frank and Ollie" Documentary. There should be a sequel, "Mark and Milt", only with more cursing and scenes with them hanging out at the bar after work. :)
