Bambi in Wire

A few years ago, after I had finished work on "Bambi 2", I did a wire sculpture of that character and gave it to animation director/story artist extraordinaire Brian Pimental as a thank you gesture for having me be a part of the production.
From all the wire sculptures I have done this one is the most unsteady and wobbly.
I tried to use as little wire as possible, I wanted to get to a certain simplicity and elegance.
Maybe one of my better ones.

  2. Nice to see some of your own work.
It looks like a three dimensional sketch. Marvelous!
When will you show us some of the progress made on short about a girl and her tiger?

  3. 3-dimensionality really cool(like a line drawing that's been thrust out the paper!), especially in legs and head when it turns. Did you consider it from principally one angle or constantly re-mould from various perspectives?

  4. I love the ears! Perfectly Bambi.

  5. Lovely and amazing.

Is it always on that turntable, so Brian can just press a button and watch it rotate when he wants? That seems like the best way to showcase sculpture, but I'd never considered it before.

  7. Extraordinarily attractive work of art. You've captured Marc Davis' beautiful Bambi and made it your own - in three dimensions. Congratulations on the work of delicacy.

  14. What!? *o*
You sure know how to wield 'line'.... be it pencil or wire!! How is it I can feel so much volume in something that has no volume at all..... great stuff.

  22. This is a lovely piece! I love how good it looks from all angles.
PS. Bambi 2 was so great. You did a great job with it. Out of all the Disney sequels I think it is by far the best. Its so well done. After I saw that film and watched all the special features, I was very inspired.

  26. It's really neat to see one of these "in the round!"

How do you think of these while you're sculpting them? I can't begin to wrap my head around sculpture. It seems like a 3D gesture in a lot of ways.
