Crazy with the Heat is a Goofy/Donald short from 1947. Ed Aardel was the lead animator on the film. I remember seeing it as a kid in a theatre as part of a Disney shorts package program.
These terrific rough drawings from the short were recently offered on Ebay. I did not get them, but I think I should have. Because when examined closely, I believe at least some of them are by Milt Kahl. This is exactly how Milt drew during the 1940s, and as we all know during his career he helped many animators to improve staging and drawing for their scenes.
I think these are fantastic "doodles". What do you think? Could these be Milt's?

They have worked with Ollie Johnston before, so I'm taking a guess and saying that the one who helped him might have been Ollie. :):):)
ReplyDeleteI just tried my luck :) Don't take it seriously.
DeleteThe guy who's offering [piles & piles of] this stuff just offered 10 drawings from Johnny Appleseed ---- so, yeah, there's some Milt stuff in this stash.... and somebody out there realizes it cuz whatever I bid, someone bids higher. I thought it was you and I kept whispering to myself, "darn you, Andreas!"
ReplyDeleteI think what’s fascinating about this short is that this is the only time Bob Carlson directed a Donald Duck short. I read about it in David Gerstein and J.B. Kaufman’s fantastic book on Donald Duck, that Bob Carlson was considered a director when another Donald director, Jack King was out sick (this was before he was laid off btw). They were actually considering Bob Carlson to be one of the new directors for Disney, but afterwards he got demoted to being an animator at Jack Hannah’s unit.
