Robin Hood Designs

I have written before about the ever changing design of the character of Robin Hood. Here are two images representing the initial version of Robin and Little John followed by their final designs. This opening scene was animated by John Lounsbery. Since Milt Kahl was the character design guru, he made sure that those opening scenes by Lounsbery represented the latest and final version of the characters.
Here are a few draw overs by Milt (over Lounsbery's animation) to ensure character consistency.
I think these sketches are beautiful, sensitively drawn and very appealing.

    1. They were definitely inspired by all the animal characters in Robin Hood, but I thought Cory Loftis' designs were super brilliant

    2. Thankfully, Andreas is having nothing to do with any of the current computer animated agendas at the Disney studio.

  3. They kept the same background? The design changes must have been relatively late if there were final BGs being done at the time, right?

    2. I actually got to meet Andreas at CTN in 2015, he was super nice, but I'm not sure he'd remember me because there were so many people there.

  4. I red when I first found out about Andreas Dejas. It was in the 8th grade from A Weekly Reader that did an article on him. Been my favorite animator since. I use to believe Mr. Dejas and the original crew from them would become the next 9 old men. Then the team got split to push out more films. Feel Disney management is to blame for the death of 2d.

  5. Memories of the seventies. We had to redraw a lot of Lounsberys Robins because of the changes Milt made. It made for a better character of course.

  6. Hey Andreas,
I am 13 years old and wanted to ask what prerequisites you need to be allowed to draw at Disney.
Many greetings from your old hometown Dinslaken
