An original cel set up from The Jungle Book. Iconic! Beautiful background art and Milt Kahl's cutting-edge animation.
A German journalist told me years ago that part of the reason why he adores this film is the fact that you, as the audience, are spending time in the lush Indian Jungle for the duration of the movie.
What could be more soothing on the eyes? I had never thought about it in that way, I just love this movie.
What a dream film. It entranced me as ten-year old. That 'pool of light' just draws you in. I wonder if the artists went on a research trip to the Indian Jungle?
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, they didn't.
DeleteWhy is there three registration holes instead of five?
ReplyDeleteThe layered backgrounds make me feel as if I'm really there. I love the backgrounds in the scene where Mowgli first parts ways with Bagheera and slides down the tree trunk.
ReplyDeleteThe rough lines on the cel of Shere Kahn, despite looking unfinished, really do give a sense of vitality.
ReplyDeleteThis piece of artwork is tremendous to look at. Though when filming the shot, sometimes the top BG cel layer feels jagged at 24fps. I don't know, but it really is something. Just something I learned myself.
ReplyDeleteWho animated Kaa? I have seen much info about the other char. animators, but nothing about Kaa yet.
ReplyDeleteI believe both Milt Kahl and Frank Thomas.
DeleteIt is so amazing! A historical piece of art
