Puss 'N Boots 1994

My first attempt at illustrating a childrens' book. Geezz..almost 30 years ago. Here are a few pages.
For the main character's design I started out by drawing my own cat, and went from there.
The publisher was Steve Fiott who at the time put out Storyboard Magazine.

The illustrations are felt pen and Magic Markers.

Merry Christmas!

  1. Danke! :)
Ihnen ebenfalls ein paar wundervolle Feiertage! :)
Wenn dieser Post nicht ein schönes Geschenk! :)

  3. I didn't know you attempted to illustrate a storybook! Excellent work, as usual.

(Incidentally, I noticed how similar to Scar the ogre looks in his lion form. Definitely a subconscious influence, I can tell.)

  4. Wow these are exquisite! The use of the medium, the designs, all beautiful, but what's most captivating are the striking compositions of each piece!! So well composed! What a visual treat, thank you for sharing and Merry Christmas! Btw, is the book available to purchase anywhere?

  5. You gotta put this book and A Different Stripe back out there! I got two of your books already...Nine Old Men and Jungle Book.

  6. I bet Milt Kahl & "Jane" would be mighty impressed with the illustration of the future Lord Marquis of Carabos sitting beneath that tree branch, Andreas.
[For anyone wanting a copy of Andreas' book, it's available on eBay ---but you'll have to outbid me]......

    1. Hahaha...I swear the similarity to Milt's sketch is coincidental. His drawing of Philip is WAY better...

    2. I kinda think Milt would have considered the chin -in -hand pose an upgrade. It's moodier.
Anyway, I'll be in a better position to judge soon ---I won the auction [105 euros ---plus shipping]....

  7. Hey, Andreas, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to you. Say, great work on your Puss in Boots book illustrations, but in my opinion, I think these illustrations would serve as a greatest idea for your next tradigital (traditional + digital) drawn animated featurette, to help top your popularity or success of Mushka. Blessings to you and your family and friends for a happy, healthy, and bright new year.

  8. Wait, you were an artist this whole time?? Thought you were just a historian. Will get this book if I could (without overspending).

By the way, "secret of nimh" tag is broken. One of your posts does not show up when you search using the tag.
