Years ago just before Cinderella was going to be offered on DVD, Disney Home Video asked Ollie Johnston to create a few character sketches from the film. The drawings would be included as art prints in a special edition of the DVD.
Ollie was getting getting up there in age, and he felt like this assignment would be too difficult for him. So he called me to help out. I picked moments from the film that might make nice character portraits.
I tried my best to draw "on model". It was an honor to do this for Ollie and to see my signature alongside his.

Beautiful drawings! They look like they came straight out of 1950! I imagine it was an honor to work with Ollie Johnson (one of the last Nine Old Men, Frank Thomas was also still alive).

Awesome. Who did what? Like what was the process? Did he sketch and you clean up for instance or you each did certain characters? Can I guess that Ollie did the little guy holding the glass slipper, or a lot of it?
ReplyDeleteThe range of characters is truly next level. Cinderella is one of the movies I watched while learning to animate. I'm still learning XD But I love the movie so much it awakened some inspiration
