An interesting 1947 note from Walt Disney to his staff. After the troubled war years he is ready to get back to animated feature productions, and Cinderella is up next. The text clearly outlines Walt's approach to storytelling and character development.

Clear and well defined. He knew exactly what he wanted. Very professionnel ! 👍☺️ It could be a page of a current nonfiction book about filmaking.
ReplyDeleteI would simply replace the word cartoon with animation.
Then I would print it out and hang it on the wall. ☺️
Thanks for posting! 🤗
wow, really cool to get some insight into the change at that time after the war years.
ReplyDeleteI just saw this "Ollie Johnston 20 Questions" sheet, that you posted a while back pop back up, if any readers are interested

although in my opinion it's a bit expensive for just a signature, not a drawing
It's fascinating how economical Walt was with his story telling. Specifically, he said that the songs would take the place of lengthy dialogue scenes and story points that would otherwise have to be shown in scenes of little amusement value. I forget who said it, but animation should grab you and not let go, and Walt really followed this principle.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Mr Deja! 🤗
