These images are scans of book pages from an Italian booklet that was published to promote the DVD release of the film in that country. I happened to be in Rome for Disney at that time and snatched it up right away. There are great production photos, Bill Peet story sketches, final film frames and more.

These are lovely. I grew up with the VHS version of the older classics, so I never got them on DVD and must've missed this release. Any chance you remember the year?

ReplyDeleteBeautiful artwork, such a pleasure to look at! The booklet seems similar to the Disney animated storybooks, I assume you have seen/have them. For those who don't know, they are picture books with a mix of production art and film stills. I got The Little Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty, and now 101 Dalmations is next! Thanks for sharing, cant wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteInteresting that the dalmatians in the photographs all have spotted ears, but the animated male dalmation's ears are solid black. Simplification to ease the animation, or a device for distinguishing the dog?

DeleteI wish Disney publishing would release a book of Peet’s complete storyboards for this film and Sword in the Stone. He ought to have an exhibit at the WD Family museum as well! All that amazing picture book work in addition to his Disney work. Truly one of the great storytellers of the 20th century
ReplyDeleteI actually have this book. I was living in England at the time, and when the Platinum edition DVD was released in 2008, the UK had a collector's box that included the 2-disc dvd AND this book. I'm so glad I picked it up!
