More Freddy Ladies

To continue with Fred Moore art on this blog, here are a few more sketches that show his intuitive approach towards depicting the female form. Fred never spent much time in a life drawing class, in or outside the Disney Studio. He just had a knack for rhythm, balance and weight.

Here is a link to one of my earlier posts on Moore:

  1. There is so much fluidity to his lines, I really love his drawings.

  2. Fred Moore truly was a talent. It makes me wonder what he would have accomplished had he not died so young. Either way, he left one hell of an influence on the animation world.

  3. did you guys have a chance to look through the new Heritage auctions stuff yet? There's a lot of stuff I'd never seen before, like this reference maquette for Bambi's antlers

    2. Those are most definitely NOT Fred Moore drawings.

    3. Hmmm, now I wonder if these are really yours, Andreas. I sure hope so! https://comics.ha.com/itm/animation-art/production-drawing/lilo-and-stitch-lilo-animation-drawing-group-of-15-attributed-to-andreas-deja-walt-disney-2002-total-15-/a/7268-19205.s?ic2=mybidspage-lotlinks-12202013&tab=MyBids-101116

    4. Yes, these are my roughs. Odd perspective, but I remember the scene needed to be down shot.
The group of drawings do not come from my own collection. For some reason I did not keep many rough drawings from that film.

    5. I find them absolutely stunning! That scene is touching and hilarious at the same time, and it gives a unique first impression of Lilo's quirky character. I just love it.
These drawings appear to be pretty close to the final animation. Did you do any major changes?

    6. Minor changes only. I recall trying to get real child like behavior into those early scenes. Lilo's emotions really got to me. It became a pretty emotional assignment.

    7. Thank you for sharing this, Andreas. I can't even begin to imagine what animating Lilo must have felt like, especially in scenes like this one... I look forward to watching the movie again soon.

    8. I won the drawings! I'm still in shock. I had never participated in an auction before, and what I bet is way more than I can afford. But I really am in love with your drawings, especially after what you shared earlier. No regrets ^^

    9. Hey Marko, I'd be happy to sign one or a few of the drawings.

    10. That would be so, so amazing! Thank you, Andreas! I don't know how to contact you privately, so I made my e-mail address public in my profile: https://www.blogger.com/profile/01706360516881582390. Maybe you can drop me a quick line?

  4. If Andreas Deja gets this. I would like to have an email conversation with him. It is about drawing and disney animation. I'm looking for a way to draw that even someone as untalented as I am can learn it. My ability to draw is abysmal. I've gotten how to draw books but none of them seem to stick, which could be on my end. Also I want to animate like how the Disney studios used to do it. Although technology has changed I'm hoping to at least revive some of that old magic for my generation. If Mr. Deja would be so kind as to reply when available or convenient.

    Thank You
