In 2003 the Academy presented an evening honoring animation powerhouses Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston. Needless to say, it was a fantastic event. I was lucky enough to be part of the group of presenters.
Here are the pages from the program that was handed out. It was also fun to help design the cover image.
I just found out that some of the presentations can be viewed on Frank & Ollie's old website here:

I just read the first paragraphs. They made me cry.
ReplyDeleteThe 80s and 90s truly were a special time for animation. Thank you so much for all the stellar art that you and your peers brought to us!
wow, I'd almost forgotten about that website! I'm glad there's still a lot of video of the event, though I wonder if there's a better quality rip from tape out there. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletethis brings back wonderful memories, thank you for sharing! i was in touch with frank and ollie around this time and, hope to share that story someday... what an event it must have been to be in person... thank you for sharing this, will give it a read through later on (^ _ ^)
ReplyDeletethe website is fantastic by the way, such a treasure trove!
Ollie Johnston was an additional animator on Disney's 1941 feature, Dumbo. Albeit uncredited of course.
